Europeans are expecting change. If no direction for a new form of development is found, then Europe will be headed for stagnation, degradation and then collapse. All of this could happen in the blinking of an eye.

By autumn we will know who will be at the helm in Germany, and so who will be calling the shots in the EU. We do not, however, know how this will impact on Europe since no one has any projects for the development of the EU in their manifesto—on the contrary, Germany’s presence in the euro zone has been called into question. Although the Christian Democrats are leading in the polls, Angela Merkel’s chances of staying in office are not so great. The Liberal party who currently form part of the ruling coalition are doing badly in opinion polls and cracks are being seen within Merkel’s own party, with some running along the fault lines of European policy.
